Semi truck hits, crushes woman crossing streetPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Police are trying to determine what happened in the moments before a semi truck hit a pedestrian early Monday morning.
It happened at about 2:20 a.m., at 35th Avenue and Thomas Road.
The woman reportedly was crossing Thomas Road when a semi making a left turn hit her.
While it's not clear exactly what happened, officers on the scene said it's possible that the woman might have walked into the rig's trailer and fallen beneath the rear wheel, which crushed her.
The woman, who has not been identified, was rushed to the hospital where she later died.
Officers are trying to determine if she was impaired.
According to the preliminary investigation, the driver of the truck was not under the influence.
The intersection was closed for several hours during the investigation.
