GLENDALE -- A Glendale man was stabbed Wednesday night when he tried to intervene during a fight between two suspects and three loss prevention officers at a West Valley Mervyn's.

Police say two suspects attempted to steal five boxes of shoes from the Mervyn's store at Arrowhead Mall. Three mall security guards confronted the suspects and a fight ensued with one suspect producing a knife.

A passerby identified as 27-year-old Anthony Ely tried to disarm the suspect but was stabbed in the torso. The suspects then ran to a waiting car and fled the area.

The victim is at the Intensive Care Unit at a local hospital. Detectives are reviewing a store security video.

One suspect is described as a white male, 25 to 30 years old, with a clean-shaven head, 5 feet 10 inches tall and 170 pounds. He was wearing a light-colored T-shirt, jeans and white sneakers. He has a tattoo on the back of his neck.

The other suspect is described as a white male, 25 to 30 years old, with short dark hair, 5 feet 10 inches tall and 200 to 220 pounds. He was wearing a dark tank top and jeans.

The suspect vehicle is a blue four-door Chevrolet HHR, which resembles a PT Cruiser. The suspects reportedly took the knife used in the attack with them.
