Mom driving stolen car takes daughter to steal from buffet

The following press release was sent by the Prescott Police Department:

PHOENIX - On Friday, March 13, 2009 at about 8:20 P.M. Prescott Police were called to the China Buffett, located at 201 Walker Rd in Prescott, AZ in reference to a robbery.

Thevictim and employee of the business,Lirong Liu, advised that a suspect later identified as Prescott resident Randi L. Downey, 18, entered the restaurant and contacted herat the cashiers table asking for change. When the register was opened, Downey began grabbing the money from the register. Liu attempted to stop Downey andwas shovedtothe ground by Downey. Downey left the area after getting into an orange colored Honda Element that was waiting for her in the parking lot.

The vehicle, which had been reported Stolen out of Prescott, was later spottedby Prescott Valley Police in the 7500 block Hwy 69 at which time both Downey and the driver, Dayna L. Colell, 42; Downey's mother, were taken into custody by Prescott Valley Officers.

Downey was booked into the Yavapai County Jail on Robberycharges.Prescott detectives sent the case for review to the County Attorney's Office for charges on Colell for Possession of Stolen vehicle as she bought the vehicle valued at over $16,000 for $1,200.00.

Prescott detectives followed up on this case and learned that Prescott resident, Daniel Crowley, 29, lived next door in the 800 block W. Gurley and befriended the vehicles elderly owner who had recently died.After the death, Crowley burglarized the victim's home and stole property and the vehicle which he later sold to an acquaintance (Downey) mother, Colell.Crowley was booked for Burglary, Auto Theft, Fraudulent Schemes, Credit Card Theft, Forgery and five other felony charges.Investigation also revealed that Crowley was assisted by a friend, Austin Denison, 22, of Prescott, who fraudulently used the victim's checks and was charged with Forgery, Fraudulent Schemes, and Possession of Stolen Property.Denison was also booked into the Yavapai County Jail.
