Economy keeping football fans homePosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Travel agents say the poor economy is keeping football fans from coming to Phoenix for the Fiesta Bowl, which pits Ohio State against Texas.
With the exception of the hotels hosting the teams, bookings are down at most of the Valley's resorts. That's despite low rates and special offers.
A travel agent in Ohio said demand there was "terrible." Another travel agent estimated that his business was down 60 percent from previous bowl trips.
It's the same story in Texas.
In addition to people foregoing the trip to save money, some say disappoint over the Longhorns' bowl destination is keeping fans home. Longhorns' fans had early hopes of going to the BCS Championship.
The Fiesta Bowl is Monday.
