Crews called to trench rescue in WaddellPosted: Updated:
WADDELL -- Crews were called out to a trench rescue at a construction site near Cactus and Citrus roads in Waddell (near Surprise) Wednesday morning.
Initial indications are that the patient is a 30-year-old male. He reportedly fell 30 to 40 feet into a confined space. Neither the nature nor the extent of his injuries was known.
Both the Surprise Fire Department and Rural Metro responded to the scene, which is a county island. Citrus Road is west of Loop 303 near 179th Avenue.
Video from NewsChopper 3 showed several emergency vehicles on the scene and several people gathered around what appeared to be some kind of shaft or opening.
Bruce Van Scyoc of Rural Metro said a team was preparing to do a technical rescue.
Details will be updated as they become available.
