(PHOENIX) November 5, 2008 - The American Red Cross Grand Canyon Chapter will provide support at a shelter for people who were evacuated due to a hazardous materials incident near Fourth Street and Arizona Eastern Avenue in Buckeye. The City of Buckeye opened the shelter earlier today.

The shelter is set up at the Buckeye Community Center located at 201 E. Centre Ave. in Buckeye. At the shelter, evacuees will have a safe place to stay while officials investigate and clean-up the spill. Several Red Cross volunteers are heading to the Buckeye Community Center with cots, blankets and other supplies.

Red Cross volunteers are trained to help people following disasters - whether it's a chemical spill, house fire or hurricane. Volunteers are there to meet the immediate needs of people impacted. We're able to provide a safe place to sleep, food and emotional support because of the generous donations of time and money from Arizonans. To learn more about your local Red Cross .
