Border agents find almost 800 grams of heroin sewn into clothes

TUCSON - The following is a press release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection:

Border Patrol Agents from the Tucson Sector continue to protect the community by keeping drugs off of the streets.Yesterday, agents discovered 796 grams of heroin sewn into the clothing of an illegal alien.This is the second time heroin was seized by Tucson Sector agents within the past 16 days.

At 8:00am on October 13, 2008, a Border Patrol camera system observed a man attempting to enter the country illegally near Nogales, Ariz.Agents from the Nogales Border Patrol Station were directed to the location and apprehended a male, Mexican national.When agents encountered the man they discovered him to have numerous small 2x2 pouches sewn into liner of the vest he was wearing.Found inside the pouches was a powdery substance which tested positive for heroin.

The 796 grams of heroin has an estimated street value of over $95,500.00.The heroin and the man were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
