Ariz. governor's proclamation honors CardinalsPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX (AP) -- Jan Brewer's first official proclamation as Arizona's new governor hails the Super Bowl-bound Arizona Cardinals and proclaims Jan. 26 through Feb. 1 as "Arizona Cardinals Championship Week."
Brewer read the proclamation Friday during a news conference attended by team owner Bill Bidwill; Bidwill's son and team president, Mike Bidwill; team mascot "Big Red"; and two Cardinals cheerleaders.
The Cardinals, the NFC champions, play Pittsburgh in Tampa on Feb. 1, and, according to Brewer, "they're going to crush the Steelers."
Brewer was Arizona secretary of state before she became governor Tuesday upon the resignation of Janet Napolitano. The U.S. Senate has confirmed Napolitano as federal homeland security secretary.
