Student brings fake gun to Maricopa High School

MARICOPA - Around noon on Friday Maricopa High School was placed on lockdown after reports of a gun on campus.

Maricopa police spokesman Sgt Steven Judd said a student reported to a school resource officer that another student had a gun at the high school .

Police said the resource officer had the school placed on lockdown while the police searched the school and found the student.

The 16-year0old male student had an airsoft gun with a laser pointer. The simulated weapon actually shoots small plastic pellets, had been modified and colored to look more like a real hand gun.

The student has been taken into custody at the Pinal County Juvenile Detention facilty and the school was taken off of lockdown.

According to Judd the school was on lockdown for about 15 mintues.

The student was book on several criminal counts, including; disruption of an educational institution, misconduct involving weapons and endangerment.
