Diamondbacks mull spring training optionsPosted: Updated:
TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) -- The Arizona Diamondbacks have conducted spring training in Tucson since 1998.
The NL team has an agreement to remain at Tucson Electric Park until 2012.
Beyond that, the team is looking at a number of options, including moving to the Phoenix area or perhaps even Casa Grande, midway between Tucson and Phoenix. A decision could come by the end of this spring.
The Diamondbacks' timeline sped up when their Tucson Electric Park partners, the Chicago White Sox, moved this spring to Glendale. That left only the Diamondbacks and the Colorado Rockies in Tucson.
With most of Arizona's spring training bases in the Phoenix area, the Diamondbacks say it is inconvenient to travel to games. And they say they it would only be worthwhile to stay in Tucson if there were four teams there.
