Police: Suspects rob banks, have cab drop them off at casino

PHOENIX - The following is a press release from the Phoenix Police Department:

On Monday, 30 March at approximately 1:15 p.m. the suspects, Brain West and Joann Jovanovich, hired a local taxi and proceeded to the Chase bank in the area of 5700 W. Camelback Rd. in Glendale. Jovanovich entered the bank and passed a note to the teller indicating that she had a gun and demanding a specific amount of currency.The teller refused to give the suspect money and she fled the bank.

At approximately 1:40 p.m. West and Jovanovich, using the same local taxi, proceeded to the TCF bank in the area of 6000 S. 35th Av. and West entered the bank. West handed the teller a note advising that he had a gun and demanding a specific amount of currency. West was given an amount of currency and he fled the bank.

Phoenix Police officers were able to identify the taxi company through witnesses and determined that both suspects had been transported and dropped at anearby casino. Officers, with the assistance Indian reservation law enforcement personnel, were able to find both suspects at the casino and they were taken into custody without incident. West and Jovanovich were later booked into jail on armed robbery and attempted armed robbery charges.
