1 Wounded in Mill Avenue shooting, suspect on the loosePosted: Updated:
TEMPE -- A night of partying on Mill Avenue ended in gunfire that left one person wounded and the suspect on the run.
It happened at about 2 a.m., as people were leaving the bars in the area of Fifth Street and Mill Avenue.
According to police, three or four shots were fired after a fight between two groups of people.
One man was hit in the leg. He was taken to the hospital and reportedly is in stable condition.
Police officers located a vehicle that had left the area and initiated a traffic stop. Three males were arrested for disorderly conduct related to the altercation and one male was arrested for failure to provide identification. Their names have not been released.
No arrests have been made related to the shooting. The investigation is ongoing.
Investigators said this kind of violence is rare for the area.
"We'll have some activity with folks who drink a little bit too much and might get into an altercation or a fight," said Lt. Vince Bourbon of the Tempe Police Department. "But rarely do we have someone actually who will pull out a weapon and shoot someone. So, this is extremely rare."
