Flagstaff man cleared in gay festival assault casePosted: Updated:
FLAGSTAFF -- Felony aggravated assault charges against a 24-year-old Flagstaff man for an incident following a gay pride festival have been dismissed after his lawyer argued that he was mistakenly identified.
Defense attorney Bruce Griffin says a judge agreed to dismiss the charges against Travis A. Reiner after a hearing. The judge acted after hearing three witnesses testify that Reiner wasn't among four men who assaulted two gay men following the June 22 festival.
Police called the incident a hate crime. Three other men who were arrested on misdemeanor charges have had their cases dismissed.
The victims were waiting for a cab when they were attacked. One was knocked unconscious and briefly hospitalized.
