15-Year-old hit by car fighting for lifePosted: Updated:
PEORIA -- A 15-year-old boy is fighting for his life after a car hit him Sunday night.
It happened at about 8:30 p.m., near Cactus Road and 67th Avenue.
According to the Peoria Police Department, the teen was running across the street when he was hit. They said it's possible that the driver simply did not see the boy because he was wearing dark clothes.
"We talk about this all the time and maybe this is a good time to bring this up with Halloween coming up," said Mike Tellef of the Peoria Police Department. "Pay attention to how you dress. If you're going to be out running at night, exercising at night, doing anything on the roadways, wearing all black is not the thing to be wearing. You need to be able to be seen. Wearing all black is going to make it virtually impossible for anybody in a vehicle to see you."
The teen suffered serious head injuries. Police have no idea why he was out in the street.
The 23-year-old driver of the car did stop and is cooperating with police.
Cactus Road was closed for several hours between 67th ad 69th avenues, but has since reopened.
