Dumpster truck crashes into power pole

PHOENIX - Smoke poured into the skies of Phoenix on Sunday after a dump truck burst into flames.

Phoenix Fire spokesperson Shelly Jamison tells 3TV, "It looks like the truck got hooked on some power lines, stuff in the back lit up and what you have is a fire burning out of control."

Fire officials say it was a Goodwill truck that hit the power pole near 16th Street and Van Buren.

The fire forced the evacuation of a nearby apartment complex and knocked out power to everyone in the area. Firefighters say they had to just let it burn because they could not douse the electrical wires with water.

"You never want to take a chance when it comes to electricity," Jamison admits. "It's very serious stuff."

Luckily no one was hurt and all power has been restored.
