MESA -- Mesa police officers are searching for a suspect who robbed a Walgreens after trying to buy some gum Saturday night.

Police officers responded to an emergency call for an armed robbery at the Walgreens at Main Street and Horne about 7:45 p.m.

Detective Michael Melendez said the suspect walked up to the front counter to buy some gum. He did not have the money to buy it so he displayed a gun and demanded all the money in the drawer.

Melendez said the employee gave him all the money and the suspect ran out the front doors where he left on a bike, heading south on Horne.

The suspect is described as a white male, 30 to 35 years old, 5 feet 8 inches tall and 130 pounds. He was wearing a baseball-style hat with a bandana underneath it. He also had facial hair, blue eyes, a cut on the bridge of his nose and two small cuts on the corner of his left eye.
