PRESCOTT - On February 6, 2009, at approximately 5 P.M., Yavapai County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a reported stabbing in the 2400 block of Pine Cove, Prescott. Upon arrival, deputies saw EMS personnel treating a stabbing victim in front of the residence. Deputies then confronted the suspect, 36-year-old William Maloy, who was standing in the driveway holding a knife to his throat. Deputies ordered Maloy to drop the knife, and he complied.
As deputies approached Maloy, he became combative and a stun gun was used to subdue him. Although he continued resisting, deputies were able to arrest Maloy and eventually place him inside a patrol vehicle for transportation to the jail. Due to his continued combative behavior, Maloy was placed in a restraint chair at the jail and then transported to YRMC for evaluation.Maloy was treated at the hospital and remained in hospital care.
At the Pine Cove home, deputies interviewed family and friends about events leading to the stabbing. Maloy had slapped his grandmother during an argument and then sat down on a couch holding an open pocket knife which he occasionally placed against his throat. As he continued to argue with his family, a female family member attempted to take the knife from him. Maloy resisted her efforts and she was cut during the struggle. Her injuries were not life threatening. YCSO was called as the family retreated from Maloy's presence. Maloy eventually walked outside as YCSO deputies arrived.
A search of Maloy's living area revealed indications of methamphetamine use and deputies also found prescription medications possibly intended for Maloy. During processing at the Prescott Detention Center, deputies discovered Maloy was in possession of marijuana.
Maloy was charged with 3 counts of Aggravated Assault per Domestic Violence, Disorderly Conduct, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Possession of Marijuana. Maloy remains under medical care pending booking on the charges.
