Driver leaves traffic stop while being investigated for DUIPosted: Updated:
PRESCOTT -- The following is a press release from the Prescott Police Department:
A Prescott man was stopped for driving 19 MPH over the speed limit and driving erratically late yesterday evening. After a failed attempt to stop the vehicle, the driver eventually did stop for police in the 100 block South Montezuma. The officer suspected the driver, Wayne Allen, 61-years of age, was under the influence. While investigation was continuing, the driver decided he did not want to stay and began to drive off. Officers followed the driver where he proceeded to his residence in the 500 block Copper Basin. He was taken into custody and transported to Prescott Police Department for processing where he became combative and assaulted the officers.
He was booked into the Yavapai County Jail where he is being held without bond at this time awaiting his initial court appearance for DUI, Failure to Stop for Police, and Aggravated Assault.
