PHOENIX -- The Balsz Elementary School District in Phoenix is adding four weeks to its school year.

Students will attend 200 days of school instead of 180.

Superintendent Jeff Smith said that means if student stay in the district kindergarten through eighth grade, they'll get in a whole extra year of learning before high school.

He said it will help students learn more and improve standards in the school district.

There are currently 3,000 students in the Balsz Elementary School District.

The longer school year goes into effect this fall.
