Bike rider assaults, robs man then pedals away

MESA -- A suspect on a mountain bike assaulted and robbed a man walking with his girlfriend Thursday night in Mesa.

According to the Mesa Police Department, the victim and his girlfriend were walking southbound near Ninth Avenue and Country Club Drive when they were approached by the suspect who pulled up on a black mountain bike.

The suspect demanded money from the male victim. When he refused, the suspect assaulted him and forced him to hand over his cash.

Police say the suspect then got back onto his bicycle and slowly rode off, fleeing the area westbound on Emerald Avenue.

The victim received minor injuries.

The suspect is described as a white male in his 30s, 5 feet 10 inches tall, 250 to 300 pounds with a large belly. He has mid-length brown hair and hazel eyes. He was wearing a green button-up long-sleeved shirt with the sleeves rolled up, a white undershirt, dark gray sweatpants and raggedy black shoes. He had numerous tattoos on both forearms.

The investigation is ongoing.
