3 Possible child abduction attempts in Cochise County

SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. -- Police in Sierra Vista and Cochise County sheriff's deputies have stepped up patrols around area schools because of three possible child abduction attempts in the past two weeks.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Carol Capas says in addition to the increased patrols, volunteers with the Sheriff's Assist Team are patrolling outlying areas and school districts are redoubling efforts to teach children how to avoid strangers who may approach them.

Capas says the latest incident happened Wednesday when a 10-year-old boy was approached by a man near Palominas, about 15 miles southeast of Sierra Vista. Last week, two men twice approached young girls, at bus stops in Sierra Vista and south of Sierra Vista.

All the incidents happened while children were headed to school.
