Almost 90 dead bats found near mine at Superstition Mtns.

PHOENIX - Almost 90 dead bats were found in the Superstition Mountains and the public's help is needed in finding their killers.

The Arizona Game and Fish Department is asking for any information in reference to the illegal killing of 80 bats near an abandoned mine near the Peralta Trailhead.

Investigators believe the Mexican free-tail bats were shot and left in the mine between April 1 and April 10.

Wildlife Manager Dana McGehee says, "This is a blatant example of disrespect for wildlife, and the laws that are established to protect the state's wildlife."

Anyone with information on the killing of the bats is asked to contact the department's Operation Game Thief by calling 1-800-352-0700. A reward of up to $2,500 is being offered in this case.
