Owings demoted to Triple A Tucson

PHOENIX (AP) -- After getting shelled by the San Diego Padres Monday night, the Arizona Diamondbacks announced Tuesday they have optioned right-handed pitcher Micah Owings to Tucson.

Owings lasted only three innings, allowing eight runs and six hits.

The team recalled right-handed pitcher Jailen Peguero from Tucson.

Owings, was 6-9 with a 5.93 ERA (69 ER in 104.2 IP) with 41 walks and 87 strikeouts in 22 games (18 starts) for the Diamondbacks.

He also batted .288 (15-for-52) with seven runs scored, two doubles, a home run and three RBI at the plate.

Peguero was 5-4 for Tucson with a 4.42 ERA (29 ER in 59.0 IP) in 41 relief appearance with four saves.

He saw action earlier in the season for Arizona in two games for a 6.00 ERA (2 ER in 3.0 IP) with three strikeouts.
