Semi truck rolls, burns on I-10Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- A semi truck caught fire after the driver lost control and rolled over on Interstate 10 nears the Interstate 17 split Friday morning.
It happened at about 10 a.m. Another driver was able to break a window with a pipe and help the truck driver escape from the burning rig. In addition to injuries sustained in the wreck, the truck driver also burned his arms.
Firefighters were able to quickly out out the fire. Clearing the wreck, however, took a bit longer.
The Department of Public Safety is on the scene, and said westbound I-10 traffic is being routed on to northbound I-17.
While some traffic was being allowed around the wreck in a single lane for a short time, ADOT video showed several vehicles turning around on the freeway and going back the way they came. That one lane was shut down again so officers could investigate and crews could clear the wreck.
Westbound I-10 was expected to open no later than 1 p.m.
It's not clear what caused the driver to lose control of his truck.
