Suspect tosses marijuana out stolen van's windowPosted: Updated:
TUCSON -- Tucson Sector Border Patrol agents and Tohono O'odham police were involved in a pursuit that resulted in the seizure of more than 1,600 pounds of marijuana, the recovery of a stolen vehicle bearing government plates, and the arrest of an illegal immigrant.
Early Monday morning, Tohono O'odham police contacted the Border Patrol for assistance with a white Ford van attempting to flee on state Route 86 near Three Points, Ariz.
During the pursuit, one of the occupants in the van began throwing bundles of marijuana out of the passenger side window.
The vehicle then turned onto Herman Road where the driver and passenger abandoned the van. One of the suspects was apprehended by Border Patrol agents. The second suspect was not located.
A total of 1,635 pounds of marijuana were seized and the subject in custody was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for prosecution.
