Ex Tucson cop surrenders state certificationPosted: Updated:
TUCSON -- A former Tucson police officer accused of drinking and gambling on the job has agreed to give up his peace officer certification.
David Haggerty's consent agreement for voluntary relinquishment was adopted Wednesday by the Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training board.
The agreement means the former Tucson Police Department employee can no longer work as a peace officer in Arizona.
Haggerty retired in March after more than 20 years on the force.
Authorities say Haggerty joined his sergeant for drinks at two bars on Jan. 29 and the pair also gambled on duty.
During an internal investigation, police say Haggerty was not truthful about how much he drank, the justification for it or the location.
Haggerty's sergeant also retired from the department after more than 20 years on the force and his certification was revoked in October.
