Electric US 60 sign vandalized, will cost thousands to repair

PHOENIX -- An electronic highway sign was vandalized with spray paint sometime in the early Thursday morning hours.

Why didn't any motorists call it in?

The sign is an electronic warning sign used by ADOT to inform drivers of traffic impacts on the US 60. The sign was spray painted with lime-green paint.

ADOT says it will cost thousands of dollars to repair the damage. The freeway will have to be partially closed for the repairs to take place.

The sign is protected by a plexiglas front, so special solvents will have to be used in order to clean the vandalism off.

ADOT asks drivers to call 911 if they see someone commiting vandalism on highway signs.
