According to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, a white female was walking north on the shoulder of 51st Avenue about 1/4 mile north of the entrance to the Vee Quiva Casino Sunday night.

A vehicle heading the same direction apparently tried to pass other vehicles and hit the woman from behind. The driver did not stop.

The woman, who has been identified as Joy Riggs, 33, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect vehicle is a 1991 to 1996 Chevrolet B-Body style sedan, possibly a Caprice, Caprice Classic or Impala SS. The vehicle is dark in color, possibly black or red.

Detectives determined from evidence at the scene that at least part of the bumper was red.

The license plate number of the car is not known, but investigators said the car will have damage to its right front corner and headlight.
