Toddler struck and killed by vehicle in complex parking lot

PHOENIX - A 2-year-old girl has been killed after being struck in a Valley parking lot.

According to police, the child was reportedly struck Sunday just before 5 p.m. near 67th Avenue just south of Osborn as she was walking with her family in the parking lot of an apartment complex.

Police say a mother, her sister and a the child were walking in the parking lot of their apartment complex. The two adults were reportedly carrying items as they were holding onto the child's hand.

A 19-year-old man who was moving into the complex was traveling through the parking lot along with three other passengers in a white Chevy Impala. Police tell 3TV that the child broke away from her mother and stepped in to the parking lot and was hit by the Chevy Impala. Authorities say the driver stopped the vehicle immediately.

The girl was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital where she died as a result of her injuries.

Police say this was a tragic incident and no charges are expected to be filed.
