SURPRISE - The following is a press release from the Surprise Police Department:
On Saturday, July 26, 2008, at approximately 9:40 pm, a pedestrian was struck and killed by a train in the area of Dysart Road and Grand Avenue.
The victim, 40 year old Rosario Vega Hernandez, of Surprise AZ, was walking his bicycle across the railroad tracks near the intersection of Dysart Road and Grand Avenue, when he was struck by a train owned by Burlington Northern Railroad.
Hernandez succumbed immediately to his injuries and expired on the scene. Initial reports indicate that traffic control devices in the area were working properly at the time of the accident.The collision is currently under investigation by the Surprise Police Department's Traffic Enforcement Unit.
