PHOENIX -- Sunset Elementary School and the Cartwright School District office at 67th Avenue and Osborn Road were on lockdown for a time while police searched for a suspect Wednesday morning.

Police say two Hispanic men approached two women getting gas at 67th Avenue and Thomas Road about 6 a.m.

The victims said one of the men lifted his shirt and displayed what appeared to be a handgun. While removing his weapon, the suspect told the victims he was taking their car. The suspects then fled the area in the 2000 white Chevrolet Malibu.

The men left the car at an apartment complex about a block away.

Officer James Holmes said as police were taking the women home, they saw the two suspects walking northbound on 64th Avenue.

An officer was able to take one of the suspects into custody. He has been identified as Anthony Demartini, 21.

The other suspect took off running. Police searched for several hours, but did not find him. He is described as an Hispanic man in his 20s with a shaved head.

The lockdown was lifted shortly before 9 a.m.
