McCain mum as he leaves Phoenix for Ohio ralliesPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- All eyes were on Sen. John McCain on Thursday as he played coy about his pick for vice president and left Phoenix for a campaign rally in Ohio.
The Republican presidential nominee-in-waiting bypassed waiting reporters and climbed the stairs to his "Straight Talk Express" campaign plane for a trip to Ohio without saying a word.
McCain is widely expected to announce his pick for vice president soon, possibly Thursday night or before a campaign event set for Friday morning in Dayton.
He and his running mate are expected to appear together at one or more rallies planned in Ohio, Pennsylvania and Missouri in the run-up to the GOP convention that starts Monday in St. Paul, Minn.
McCain spent most of the week in Arizona huddling with advisers and working on the speech he will give when he is officially nominated.
