Truck going wrong way on U.S. 60 hits SUV; 2 deadPosted: Updated:
SHOW LOW, Ariz. -- Two people are dead after a head-on collision near Show Low Wednesday morning.
The two-vehicle collision occurred just after 10 a.m. on westbound U.S. 60 just outside the Show Low city limits, according to the Department of Public Safety.
DPS spokesman Harold Sanders said the DPS Communication Center received 911 calls of a wrong-way vehicle in the area.
Sanders said witnesses saw a Chevrolet S-10 truck driving westbound in the eastbound travel lanes. Witnesses also reported that other motorists were trying to get the attention of the driver to advise of the wrong-way travel.
The S-10 drove head-on into a Ford Explorer, which was traveling eastbound in the eastbound lanes of travel.
Both drivers were killed as a result of the impact. One driver was declared dead on scene and the other was declared dead at a hospital.
Sanders said there were no passengers in either vehicle.
Sanders said weather conditions were good with a clear roadway surface.
U.S. 60 was closed and traffic was re-routed as a result of the collision. The highway reopened at 12:40 p.m.
