Boy drowns, another nearly dies after falling into pool

One boy dies, another in serious condition


EL MIRAGE -- According to the El Mirage Police Department, Sunday evening the 3-year-old boy's condition was upgraded to guarded and Monday morning the child was upgraded again and was released from the hospital into the custody of Child Protective Services.

The case is still under investigation.


EL MIRAGE - Emergency responders received two drowning calls from opposite sides of the Valley.

Both incidents took place on Friday with the first call made from Gilbert and the second from El Mirage.

The 3-year-old little boy from El Mirage was treated at the Phoenix Childrens Hospital and is listed in serious condition. Firefighters tell 3TV the boy was breathing on his own.

Reports indicate the boy was home with his mom when he fell into the pool, which had no fence around it.

Meanwhile another 3-year-old drowned in a backyard pool near Cooper and Ray in Gilbert.

Firefighters say that boy was underwater for approximately five minutes. Family members reportedly tried to administer CPR but it was too late. That pool did have a fence but the gate was propped open.

According to Banner Health, the boy was visiting from Missouri and died just hours before heading home.


GILBERT - A little boy is dead after drowning in a Valley swimming pool on Friday afternoon.

According to reports the 3-year-old boy who lost his life was not a Phoenix resident and was visiting from Missouri.

The boy apparently fell into a backyard pool at a residence located around Cooper and Ray Roads. He is believed to have been in the water for approximately five minutes.

Although there was a fence around the pool, the gate was reportedly propped open.
