PHOENIX -- The 4-year-old daughter of former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson died after accidentally hanging herself on Memorial Day.

The girl was pronouced dead around 11:45 a.m. the next day.

Exodus Tyson's 7-year-old's brother found her hanging from a treadmill cord and immediately went and got his mother, who, according to the police report, was cleaning in the next room.

The mother cut the little girl down, called 911 and began CPR. Rescue crews arrived at the home at 10th Avenue and Bethany Home Road and rushed the little girl to St. Joseph's Hospital where she was put on life support.

It's not clear how the little girl managed to get tangled in the cord that hangs from the treadmill.

Tyson was Las Vegas at the time, but rushed back to Phoenix as soon as he heard the news.

The Tyson family has not spoken publicly, but they did release a statement through a New York PR firm: "The Tyson family would like to extend our deepest and most heartfelt thanks for all your prayers and support, and we ask that we be allowed our privacy at this difficult time."

While police are investigating the incident, they say that at this point, it appears to be simply a tragic accident.

Tyson, 42, remains the youngest man ever to win the WBC, WBA and IBF world heavyweight titles. He took the WBC title when he was 20. Tyson's controversial actions both in and out of ring have landed him in the headlines numerous times over the years. He retired from competitive boxing in 2005.
