Classes a go at Booker T. Washington despite morning firePosted: Updated:
MESA -- Fire investigators are trying to determine what sparked a fire that ripped through the kitchen of a Mesa school early Tuesday morning.
More than a 100 firefighters were called out to Booker T. Washington Elementary School in the area of Southern Avenue and Dobson at about 2:30 a.m.
That call came from a private alarm company.
When crews first arrived on the scene, they had a hard time finding the source of the fire until they came upon the kitchen.
While school officials initially thought they might have to cancel classes for the day, that turned out not to be the case.
Mike Dunn of the Mesa Fire Department said the damage was contained to the kitchen and some of the adjoining rooms.
Because the damage was relatively limited, officials decided to go ahead and hold classes as scheduled.
No injuries were reported.
