Final stretch of Loop 202 finally opensPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX - There is great news for drivers who live or work in the East Valley.
A new stretch of the Loop 202 is finally open. This is the area between Power Road and University Drive.
There is a lot of excitement in the far East Valley to see the completion of the 56-mile arc known as the Loop 202 Red Mountain Freeway.
Prior to completing this 4.5-mile stretch drivers had to take surface streets. By connecting the last leg of the freeway, it should have a drop-off in drive time for motorists by at least 30 minutes.
Many drivers were honking their horns during this morning's commute. One driver said, "I guess it's been about two yearsI've been really waiting for it."
The final stretch not only brings to close the arch of the 202, but the 1985-approved Proposition 300. It was a $5.7 billion endeavor.
