Truck hits, kills husband and wife in ScottsdalePosted: Updated:
SCOTTSDALE -- Speed might have been a factor in an early morning wreck that killed a husband in wife at Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard and 90th Street in Scottsdale.
2 killed in wreck on Frank Lloyd Wright and 90th Street - Police are on the scene of a double fatal wreck at Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard and 90th Street.
It happened at about 7 a.m. Friday.
Sgt. Mark Clark said Alfred Tillman, 82, and Bernice Tillman, 80, were crossing 90th Street south of Frank Lloyd Wright when a Toyota pickup hit and killed them.
Aerial video of the scene showed the small pickup truck with significant front-end damage.
Clark said it that based on the skid marks, it looks like speed was a factor in the wreck. The posted speed limit in that area is 35 mph, but it's believed that the truck was going faster than that.
The Tillmans, who lived nearby and made the walk almost a daily ritual, were thrown some distance by the impact of the truck. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Police are questioning the male driver of the pickup.
"We're looking into all possible factors, whether there was any sort of impairment, intoxication, inattention, speed," Clark said. "There are a lot of factors that could go into how this particular driver came into contact with the two pedestrians."
Detectives are not releasing the 39-year-old's name at this time.
Investigators say 90th Street will remain closed at Frank Lloyd Wright while they try to determine exactly what happened.>
