Barbosa expected to be sidelined from 1-3 weeksPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Phoenix Suns guard Leandro Barbosa will be sidelined for one to three weeks after suffering a bone contusion in his left knee.
Barbosa planted his left leg awkwardly in the final minute of the first quarter in .
Suns doctors say Barbosa hyperextended his left knee inward as he ran past the basket and looked back at a driving layup attempt that was blocked.
He was helped off the floor and had a negative X-ray Wednesday before undergoing a MRI exam.
Suns head athletic trainer Aaron Nelson says Barbosa did not suffer any ligament damage but the MRI did show a bone contusion to the top side of the tibia, where the femur came down and connected upon hyperextension.
Nelson says Barbosa can work out on a stationary bike or the training pool but nothing of impact to the knee will be allowed for a week.
In a best-case scenario, Barbosa could play at Portland next Thursday.
But if it winds up being three weeks, Barbosa would miss 10 of the Suns' final 14 games in their playoff chase.
