McCain to discuss health care overhaul in PhoenixPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Sen. John McCain is visiting Phoenix Children's Hospital on Wednesday to discuss Democrats' ambitious health care overhaul, which could create a government-run health care plan option.
The Arizona Republican also is scheduled to tour the hospital and meet with patients.
Government medical coverage for middle-class workers and their families has become the hottest issue in the debate over how to overhaul the health care system.
President Barack Obama and most Democrats say the choice of a public plan would serve to balance the power of private insurers. But insurance companies see it as a step toward a government takeover, and many business groups agree.
McCain has criticized the plan's cost.
Polls indicate public support for a government option.
