Heavy smoke made first-alarm fire difficult for crewsPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- Massive amounts of smoke gave fire crews a hard time as they battled a first-alarm blaze at the Maricopa County Bar Association building Thursday morning.
Firefighters were called out to the area of Third Street and Palm Lane at about 1 a.m.
The smoke made it difficult for them to get inside the deal with the flames.
"The crews found a lot of smoke, pretty much banked down to the street, [making it] pretty hard to even see the building," said Capt. Courtney Jenkins of the Phoenix Fire department. "This time of year, when it's cold like this, you get the smoke kind of hanging low like it is."
Firefighters said there was quite a bit of damage, much of it from all that smoke.
No injuries were reported.
The fire is under investigation.
