UPDATE: Homicide victim's truck found; police look for clues

AVONDALE -- A vehicle sought in connection with a fatal shooting has been located. Avondale police yesterday asked for the public's help in locating a silver Dodge pickup truck that was reported missing following a fatal shooting on Dec. 17.

A caller contacted police after seeing the information on the news. The truck was found abandoned in a neighborhood subdivision the 1000 block of S. 118th Avenue around 10 p.m. last night. Police confirmed that the pickup was the same vehicle driven by 18-year-old Marco Hernandez of Avondale, who was last seen by his family on Dec. 16. The vehicle has been impounded as investigators search for clues in his death.

A landscaper found Hernandez's body in a neighborhood park near 120th Drive and Locust Lane on Dec. 17. The victim died as a result of a gunshot wound. The motive for the killing is unknown.

"We are asking for the public's help in solving this crime," said Avondale Police PIO Rick Rodriguez. Anyone with information on this case is asked to call the Avondale Police Department at (623) 333-7001.

AVONDALE -- Avondale police are seeking information related to the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old Avondale man, whose truck is also reported missing. A landscaper found the body of the victim, Marco Hernandez of Avondale, in a neighborhood park yesterday morning, police stated. The victim died as a result of a gunshot wound. His body was found near a block wall in a ramada park area near 120th Drive and Locust Lane.

According to police, his family reported that he was seen on Dec. 16 around 6 p.m. driving the family vehicle, a silver 2004 Dodge pickup truck, AZ license plate ACV9149. The vehicle was not at the crime scene, and police are seeking the public's help in locating the pickup, as well as any information that will help in solving the murder.

"Locating this pickup may be crucial to helping solve this crime. We are asking for the public's help in being on the lookout for this missing vehicle and in providing any information they can about this case," said Avondale Police PIO Rick Rodriguez.
