PHOENIX - The paternal grandparents of a a woman kidnapped 21 years ago in Phoenix when she was an infant have been arrested in the case on obstruction charges.
Phoenix police allege 70-year-old Espiridion Fernandez and 68-year-old Arminda Barrios knew their 10-month-old granddaughter Maria Rodriguez had been taken to Mexico in 1987 by their son, and even visited her there, but told investigators they didn't know where she was.
Both were arrested Thursday after detectives developed additional information.
After marrying and becoming a mother, police say Rodriguez contacted the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in 2006 and was reunited with her mother.
Police are still looking for Rodriguez' father, 45-year-old Frank Javier Fernandez.
