Program offering free tuition approved, cash is notPosted: Updated:
TUCSON -- The Arizona Board of Regents has signed off on a plan to provide qualified low-income students with free tuition at any of the state's three public universities.
Although it was given tentative approval last week, it's unclear how the program will be paid for.
Known as Centennial Scholars, the program would provide qualified high school students who graduate after 2012 the chance to avoid paying for college classes. In return, the students have to promise to earn good grades, perform community service and stay out of trouble.
