PEORIA -- Crews were called out to a house fire in the area of 85th and Peoria avenues early Friday morning.
According to Mike Tellef, spokeman for the Peoria Fire Department, it looks like the fire started on the roof while a crew was up there doing some work.
An off-duty Peoria police officer was driving by and spotted the smoke. That officer kicked in the door and rescued a woman who was in a motorized wheelchair.
Firefighters were able to put the fire out quickly, but the home does appear to be a total loss.
No injuries were reported.
