Phoenix teen accused of stealing woman's purse, credit cards in PrescottPosted: Updated:
The following is a press release from the Prescott Police Department:
PRESCOTT -- On December 9, 2008 at approximately 10:15 a.m., Prescott Police were called to the Gateway Mall to investigate a robbery.
The police met with the 64-year-old victim in the Prescott Library at the mall. The woman said that she was sitting at a table when a black male in his late teens approached her. She said the male suspect grabbed her purse and ran out of the mall. She followed the suspect to the exit and watched him get in a truck, which appeared to be waiting for him as a getaway vehicle. The victim said the truck was driven by a white male about the same age as the suspect.
The police learned that the suspects began using the victim's cell phone and credit cards almost immediately after the theft. At approximately 6 p.m., police tracked the suspects to a restaurant by the mall. The suspects were located and taken into custody without incident.
The suspects were identified as Kennedy F. Smith, age 17, of Phoenix and James W. Crawford, age 18, of Rim Rock Arizona.
Mr. Smith was charged with Fraud, Theft by a person and Theft of a Credit Card which are all felonies. He was booked into the Yavapai County Juvenile Detention Center. Mr. Crawford was charged with Fraud, Theft of a Credit Card and Forgery. He was booked into Yavapai County Jail.
