Suspect in officer-involved shooting on the loose

PHOENIX -- Police are searching for the suspect in an overnight officer-involved shooting.

Officer fired several shots

It started with several calls to 911 reporting shots fired shortly before 2 a.m..

According to police, the man fire several rounds into the air or near two men in the area of 22nd Street and Thomas Road early Monday morning.

When the first officer arrived on the scene, the suspect reportedly pointed his handgun at him. The officer fired one or more shots, but missed the suspect.

The man, who did not return fire, took off on foot and has yet to be found.

Officers set up a perimeter and brough in both a helicopter and K9 units to search the neighborhood.

The suspect is described as an Hispanic male about 5 feet 7 inches tall. He has a close haircut and was wearing a black T-shirt with a white logo and jean shorts.

No injuries were reported.
