Suns choose Louisville forward Clark in 1st roundPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- The Phoenix Suns went for defensive help by drafting Earl Clark of Louisville with the 14th selection overall in the NBA draft.
Another first-rounder might be headed to Arizona, too.
The 6-foot-9, 225-pound forward worked out for the Suns on Saturday. He averaged 14.2 points as a junior last season. General manager Steve Kerr said he was impressed by Clark's ability to defend both inside and on the perimeter.
The selection came amid a swirl of rumors involving a trade involving all-star Amare Stoudemire. The Arizona Republic reported that Golden State's pick at No. 7 overall, Davidson sharpshooter Stephen Curry, would come to Phoenix as part of a deal involving Stoudemire.
Kerr said there would be no trades last night -- but noted the team is in a transition mode.
Coach Alvin Gentry said that Clark reminds him of Cliff Robinson, except without the shooting touch -- yet.
