PHOENIX -- The victim has been identified as David Garcia, 17, and the suspect is Aaron A. Garcia, 16. Police say they are not related.
After searching for the scene at the local park and reviewing the scene inside the home, Phoenix detectives determined the suspect's initial statement was not supported by the physical evidence inside the home.
Phoenix police Officer James Holmes said detectives interviewed the suspect, who was originally identified as a witness to the crime, and he admitted to being involved in the shooting.
The suspect also admitted to hiding the weapon and disposing of evidence.
The suspect has been detained at the Juvenile Detention Center for manslaughter and weapons violation charges.

Date: 03-11-09 at approximately 1430 hours
Location: 3rd St/ S. Broadway Rd.
Victim: Hispanic, male, 19 years of age (deceased/NOK not notified)
Witness: Hispanic, male, 16 years of age
On 03-11-09, at approximately 2:40 p.m. Phoenix Police officers responded to a residence in the area of 3Rd St/S. Broadway in reference to a shooting.
Upon arrival of police and Phoenix Fire personnel, the victim was found inside the home and was pronounced deceased by paramedics.
The investigation revealed the victim and witness had been at a local park in the area of 5th Av. /S. Broadway, and standing outside their vehicle, when the witness heard one gunshot. The witness then realized his friend had been hurt and he placed the victim inside the car and drove him to the residence on 3rd St.
The witness reported he saw no one with a weapon in the park and he could offer no suspect information or motive for the shooting.
