Motorcyclist critical after wreck on Carefree Highway wreckPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX -- A motorcyclist is in critical condition after an early morning accident on the Carefree Highway Interstate 17 overpass.
It happened at about 2 a.m. Wednesday. The investigation kept the eastbound lanes of the overpass closed through the morning rush hour.
According to police, a 41-year-old motorcyclist got off I-17 at the Carefree Highway. He was going west, but entered the eastbound lanes. Investigators believe that when he tried to correct himself, he slammed into the center median and flipped several times.
The man was in critical condition when he was taken to John C. Lincoln Hospital.
Police are trying to determine if alcohol was a factor in the wreck.
No helmet was found at the scene.
